Mastering Your Presentation Skills is a two-day advanced skill-building course for technical professionals who are called upon to make formal or informal presentations, or communicate complex data. The ability to present information and ideas effectively is clearly a critical success factor in business. The challenge becomes more difficult when dealing with highly technical information or when communicating to diverse audiences, knowledge levels, and technical expertise. The emphasis of this course is on identifying and developing each participant’s individual communication style.
The two-day course includes:
- Eight major videotaped exercises, of which six are interactively coached.
- Practice developing and delivering a complete presentation including two to five PowerPoint slides
- A personal video for each participant with eight to 10 of his/her own presentations (up to 30 minutes)
- Facilitated group feedback on content clarity and memorability, behavioral style, interaction, and listener awareness issues
- Mastering the Art of Communication manual
- Practice with listener analysis tools for targeting levels of detail, account for various communication styles, and incorporating listener-oriented language into communications
The two day format offers comprehensive coverage of all relevant principles of behavior, content and PowerPoint, interaction, and listener awareness with over twice the videotaped practice and interactive coaching as the one day format. The two day format also capitalizes on kinesthetic learning that occurs overnight to go beyond initial learning stages, and begins to build the momentum needed for the process of habituating skills to take place
The course is also offered in an abbreviated one-day format that includes:
- Four videotaped exercises
- A personal video for each participant with three to four of hi/her presentations
- Facilitated group feedback on delivery style and interaction
- Mastering the Art of Communication manual

Command of behavioral skills
Comprehensive conceptual coverage with 7 interactively coached video practice opportunities. Capitalizes on kinesthetic learning that occurs overnight to go beyond initial learning stages, and begin the process of habituation.
Organize content for clarity and impact
Content: Comprehensive coverage of all Content principles including focus statements for persuasion, clarity, and succinctness, openings/closings; message map for developing content, incorporating listener oriented language, preview/reviewing Key messages, professional use of notes, memorability strategy and appropriate use of memory hooks, design and effective use of Powerpoint. Multiple opportunities to practice and integrate skills, including developing and delivering a complete 5-7 minute presentation with group feedback.
Manage audience interaction
Detailed discussion of strategies for cultivating interaction with practice opportunities; videotaped exercise working extensively with the ‘ART’ model for handling difficult interactions and questions, demonstrating good listening skills, and seamlessly moving the conversation forward
Listener awareness
Practice using the DNA (Demographics, Needs, Attitudes) analysis model in building a presentation and targeting levels of detail; understanding communication styles, and change models also covered.
